Winch Signaling Devices

This NEW system has been successfully tested in harsh underground conditions and is now available to our customers.

The new Reef Winch Signalling Device comes in two different formats: 

1. Reef Winch Signalling Device – standard

• With the standard device signals can be sent to and from the winch driver via the cable or the pull wire.
• The winch can also be tripped either by pulling the cable or the pull wire.
• Refer to our operating procedure for the STANDARD system.

2. Reef Winch Signalling Device – advanced

• With the advanced device signals can be sent to and from the winch driver via a cap lamp or the cable or the pull wire.
• The winch can also be tripped either by shining a cap lamp for 5 seconds onto any of the lights or pulling the cable or the pull wire.
• This advanced system also has a memory to indicate exactly where the trip was initiated.

Underground winches have been the cause of several safety incidents in the mining industry of which a large number were fatal. The winch signaling device is a safety support system to assist the winch driver to make informed decisions in life threatening situations.

Reef Switchboard Manufacturers has been involved in winch signaling related projects for the past 4 years. A panel of experts in different fields in the industry collaborated to design and manufacture a signaling system for the mining industry. However the system was seen to be the cause of false trips and unnecessarily reduced production rates. Over the past 18 months Reef Switchboard Manufacturers in conjunction with other interest groups has developed a NEW smooth running signaling system.
